Presence and begin/end of day

derived from the captures, not from a button anyone presses

Every close-out capture is already stamped with where it was taken, when, on which device, and against which assigned segment. The confirmation Ansco asked for falls out of that — no new step for the crew, and a photograph of the work cannot be taken in the yard the next morning, which is the failure mode of every “I’m on site” button.

reading the captures

Nobody is tracked. These are records created for close-out, read back — there is no continuous location, no idle time, and no position recorded at any moment a technician was not already photographing the work. A tool that quietly becomes surveillance is one a crew finds a way to defeat, and the close-out evidence goes with it.
